The title of this post is delivered courtesy of Connor, who is cutting up a ripe mango. It’s Sunday night, the third weekend of March, and we’ve done a pretty good job of shrugging off the Sunday blues (for him, not me) by “hiking” Mount Tabor and biking BikeTown (rhymes with NikeTown) yellow bikes down Clinton Street and across the Tilikum Bridge, by drinking specially delivered 101 Cider House and videochatting our college besties. We should already be in bed but we’re waiting for a load of laundry to finish. Besides, we made friends at Brooklyn Park Pub, a local bar that plays Groundhog Day on loop.
Yesterday we did lunch at Sckavone’s on Division, did Vintage shopping, got kombucha on tap, rode BikeTown bikes over to Hawthorne, and did more boutique shopping, rounding out the outing with a flight of dry ciders at Portland Cider House. Call me a douche-bag, but I guess vacation is best enjoyed by supporting local business and partaking of local food with a good friend.
After a siesta back home, we managed to trek out to Jake’s Bar & Grill downtown, as touristy as it is, for happy hour (starts at 9 pm on Saturdays). We surprised ourselves with a trip to Voodoo Donuts… the line is worth it… sorry to be a douche-bag again, but I had the Memphis Mafia and Connor had the Viscous Hibiscus and we actually split them over two days… such an interesting delicious flavor on both! One thing that is not overrated in our world of word-of-mouth and hype. At the end of the night Connor got us one of those Car2Go setups that’s a Mercedes Benz C-Class so I put the seat back and low to ride back home over the river.
Tomorrow it’s up and at ‘em bright and early so I can try to beat the morning rush at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Woodstock, and start my journey to Vancouver BC with plenty of time to spare. I am looking forward to sightseeing a bit around Vancouver before making my way to St James Hall for the CM show tomorrow night.
P.s… Portland’s waiting for you!
